My Top 5 Games at Rezzed

I had a great time at Rezzed on Saturday and was able to try out a fair few games and with quite a few of them, I’d definitely purchase in the future.  I can’t possibly talk about all of them here but my top 5 were:

1. Steel Division: Normandy 44

It was the first game I played and probably my favourite.  For me it was like a grown-up version of Company of Heroes with a dose of the old Close Combat series thrown in.  On the day I was part of a 3v3 multiplayer battle and it was a lot of fun.  It probably isn’t for the faint-hearted but for those that like super tactical wargames, this is perfect.

2. Dawn of War III

Not exactly an indie game but I still loved Dawn of War III nonetheless.  I’m a huge fan of the previous games in the series and this was just as good.  On the day you got to play one mission from the campaign as the Blood Ravens vs the Eldar.  Even as an experienced DoW player, it took me a while to get the hang of it, but when I did it was incredibly satisfying.

3. Antihero

One of the pleasant surprises at Rezzed was the excellent Antihero.  You take on the role of a master thief battling against another master thief in a steam-punk esque town.  The gameplay is turn-based and fairly easy to get the hang of, though pretty hard to master.  Before we knew it, my friend and I had played half-an-hour of this excellent and addictive little game.

4. King Under the Mountain

I featured King Under the Mountain in my last top Kickstarter Games and it was nice not to be dissapointed when I tried it out at Rezzed.  If Prison Architect was dwarves building a kingdom then it would be King Under the Mountain.  As a Prison Architect fan this works for me and I look forward to seeing how the game develops.

5. Colt Express

Ok so this is a bit of a cheat as it is a board game rather than a video game.  Rezzed had a board game demonstration area so we thought we’d try something out and we were directed towards Colt Express.  We were fairly skeptical to begin with but we both thoroughly enjoyed it and my friend is going to purchase it off the strength of one play session! I think playing board games might start to become a more regular occurrence…

  1. I went to Rezzed too! I didn’t get to play any of the games you mentioned here but I remember seeing some people play the Anti Hero game and thought it looked really cool. So many games so little time!

  2. I didn’t get a chance to play it there myself, but so many people I know who went to Rezzed have mentioned Antihero! Sounds like one I’ll have to check out.
